State septic program contacts

Short answer

Every state sets its own septic rules, often with counties carrying them out. Search for your state below to find its official program page and a phone number. For permits and records, your county health department is usually the best first call.

We checked these against state websites on November 6, 2026. Most numbers come from the state's own pages, and some reach a main line rather than a septic team. "See website" means we found no public program number, so use the linked page. Six numbers marked "EPA list, unconfirmed" come from the EPA's list, because we couldn't check them on a state page.

Rules vary by location

State agencies set the overall rules, but your county or local health department usually handles permits, records and inspections.
